The Power of Camp
Catching a frog. Reading the word of God. Wading a creek. Whittling a stick. Studying a butterfly’s wings. Abandoned worship. Listening to a bubbling spring. A warm hug. The captivating dance of a fire. Freedom to be who God created you to be. Quiet time with the Lord. Songbirds as your alarm-clock. Time to think.
Many of us grew up with these things in our childhood, but they are fading from the lives of children as they grow up in America. Summer camp is a uniquely American tradition that changes the lives of children and youth. Combined with the Gospel of Jesus is a powerful tool for Christians to share the Kingdom of God with the next generation. As America becomes more urban, including summer camp and retreat in your church ministry mix will be even more important for evangelism and discipleship.
This video by the Christian Camping and Conference Association highlights the power of camp in our culture and the importance of camp as a ministry tool for reaching our children and youth.
